Launching FOCUS Impact Fellows
With support from the William T. Kemper Foundation, FOCUS launched its eighth and most advanced leadership program this year. FOCUS Impact Fellows gives leaders the opportunity to work together to address a specific issue in the St. Louis region. The inaugural class of 22 Fellows began their journey in March and have been using the Ferguson Commission report as a framework in developing three initiatives, which will be rolled out to the community in December 2016.
1) Youth at the Center: Addressing racial inequity in school discipline.
2) Economic Development: A road map to racial equity in the construction industry.
3) Ferguson Commission Report Playbook: Launching the Catalyst Circle Program to connect individuals with the calls to action.
Engaging Young Professionals
Each fall, this event plays matchmaker between nonprofit organizations and young professionals looking to get involved.
CONNECT WITH A PURPOSE
In the spring, Connect With a Purpose links young professionals with service projects around town, followed by a picnic lunch and fun in Tower Grove Park.
Young professionals represent tomorrow's leaders. In addition to the Emerging Leaders program, the Connect With St. Louis initiative is another opportunity for FOCUS to engage young professionals and help them get plugged into the St. Louis region. More than 350 individuals participated in Connect With events this year, and hundreds more were reached through the Connect With newsletter, which shares events and opportunities from other young professionals' groups.
Highlighting Successes in Our Region
In addition to confronting the challenges in our region, it's also important to recognize the stories of success, big and small. To this end, FOCUS hosted the 19th Annual What's Right with the Region awards in May 2016, drawing a sellout crowd of more than 450. In addition to being a valuable networking opportunity for alumni and regional leaders, the awards help to shine a light on the good work being done by individuals and organizations in our community. --> VIEW THIS YEAR'S HONOREES
